What a great time!! Our fishing guide Clarence was absolutely wonderful. I don’t really like fishing unless on vacation, so I booked it mostly for my brother. However, I had a BLAST! Clarence was very attentive. Told us stories, answered questions. Cooked us reindeer sausage while we fished and prepared the fish we caught to eat at the end. He was very personable and went above and beyond. You can’t have a bad time with him as a guide. The four hours went by so fast because we were having so much fun! I wish we had more time to do other tours with this company.
DANG. This was the most incredible experience. EVER. Clarence, our guide, greeted us at the entrance of the frozen lake where several fishing cabins were situated. He told us everything we needed to know and assured us we would be very warm inside. He was right about that! In about 10 minutes, we had to take in our coats, gloves, and hats off. There is a wood-burning stove inside that kept us so warm, he had to open the door a few times because we were just getting too hot inside. That is not some thing I was expecting to feel ice fishing in Alaska when it’s 40 below zero outside! As we finished, he prepared reindeer hotdogs on the woodburning stove. It was delicious! Nearly everyone caught fish and everybody clapped and cheered each time. Clarence took such amazing care of us. He made hot chocolate for us and cooked the fish we caught! He shared some fun fishing stories and we all enjoyed him so much. If you are interested in ice fishing, don’t miss this amazing experience! FYI, we used Rod’s Alaskan Guide Service when we went snowmobiling, which was also first class all the way!
We were fishing with Clarence today and it was an AWESOME experience. It was -31F when we woke up and then stepped inside the heated fishing cabin and took off our outer layer. We quickly made friends with the other guests. Clarence took care of everything - bait, tackle, license, removing fish from the hook for those uncomfortable and the group caught 25 fish during our tour. He cooked reindeer sausage for lunch and some of the fish we caught for snacks. For the guys it was a really fun experience, the ladies were talking throughout, and at the end they were talking a little trash about who were better fishermen. My wife Julie caught a very nice rainbow trout and tonight we will have it for dinner. This was an excellent “roll on roll off” experience where all we had to do was show up and have fun!
We had such an amazing time!! We arrived early and found that our guide was immediately welcoming!! The camp was very clean, and Clarence, our guide, was pleasant and engaging. Ours was a smaller group, and we had such fun. Clarence helped us with everything from baiting the hook to techniques on catching the “big one”. While we watched our lines, Clarence cooked reindeer sausages that we enjoyed on buns while waiting on nibbles. Once some fish were hooked, he also cleaned and prepared them in the cabin on the stovetop. They were delicious. This was a delightful excursion for those who have or have not fished before. Highly recommend this tour and hope you get Clarence as your guide!!
This was so fun! Clarence was a great guide, he was patient and helpful, and had great stories. After our ride back fell through, he stayed with us until we had another which was above and beyond. The cabin was super comfortable, and the food was awesome. Come geared for outside though, sometimes they will set you up to fish outside. We will definitely use this guide for future adventures.
Great Fun even though we didn't catch any fish! We joined our host Clarence for an afternoon of ice fishing in a heated cabin. Clarence was the perfect host - easy going, knowledgeable, funny, engaging and professional. My hubby and I were lucky that others in the group were great with easy conversation and lots of laughs. The cabin can hold 16 people, each with their own fishing hole cut through the ice! Clarence made hot cocoa, reindeer sausage and cooked the few fish that some in our group caught. Hubby and I came up empty but we had a great time! We would highly recommend this experience!!!
Unfortunately, our dog sledding trip with another company was canceled on Wednesday due to bad weather in Fairbanks on Monday. Thus, I had to find an activity so we didn’t waste a precious day of our vacation. We were able to book a 2:00pm tour with ease for that same day with Rod’s Alaskan Guide Service. We were fortunate however, I would always encourage any visitor to always book in advance. The cost of the tour for an adult and a child was $263.38. In addition, please note that you will need to provide your own transportation to the fishing location. It was a blistering cold Alaskan day however, thanks to the indoor accommodations of the heated cabin we never had to worry about being cold. Cody was an amazing guide and he managed to keep the cabin warm with a nice wood burning fire. In addition, Cody helped everyone with baiting their hooks and provided all the assistance that was needed to catch fish. He added a special touch by playing music while we attempted to fish. This element definitely brought life to such a quiet cabin. In addition, he provided hot chocolate, water, and delicious reindeer sausage on a bun for all who desired. My son is an extremely picky eater however, because he was hungry he stepped outside of his comfort zone and tried the reindeer sausage. He ate every bite and really enjoyed it. Ice fishing will take approximately four hours and most times ice fishing just like regular fishing is a wait and see process. However, talking with the other members of the group and Kody made for a fun adventure and time pasted rather quickly. I must admit that Cody has a winning personality which allowed everyone to feel welcomed and enjoy the sport of ice fishing. We are from New Orleans so this was a one in a lifetime opportunity to fish on a frozen lake in interior Alaska. We are happy we took this last minute journey. Thanks Cody for cooking the delicious fish and making sure we had an amazing day. We truly enjoyed our visit and making priceless memories. Much success!!
